Adrian is currently in the middle of a 2 week holiday where we’ve decided to ‘stay at home’ and explore things in and around Brisbane. To kickstart the holiday we went camping with Paul and Michelle to Spicers Gap. We arrived late Sunday morning and got home again late Tuesday afternoon.
When we got there, Paul and Michelle had found us a good area and set up their camper van. We set up the tent, had toasted sandwiches for lunch and then went for a bush walk. When we got back it was basically time to start getting the fire ready for dinner and then Paul made a cake. The first night’s dinner was a lovely camp oven roast with veggies. After dinner we all sat by the fire and then Adrian put Ella to bed. She was asleep within minutes – all that fresh air and bushwalking had worn her out, plus she was very excited about sleeping in the tent!
On the Monday morning we had pancakes for breakfast and then hopped in the car and drove a few minutes to the lookout spot where we sat on the cliff edge (back a bit of course) for a while and then went on another little walk up through where the old road used to be. Paul loved showing Ella all the different trees and things, but her little legs got tired so we headed back to the car and back to the campsite. Ella had her usual 2 hour sleep after lunch and we all enjoyed some quiet time until a group of about 18 young boys from Gregory Terrace arrived. They were extremely well behaved and basically provided us with our afternoon and evening entertainment while they set up their tents and cooked themselves dinner. We had steak, sausages and veggies for dinner and once again sat around the fire talking the night away.
Michelle unfortunately had to go to work early Tuesday morning so she was gone before we even got up. We went and did some more exploring while everything dried out (just from the dew, no rain) and then packed it all in the car. Ella ‘helped’ of course. We followed Paul in the car to Cunningham’s Gap where we had a sausage sizzle for lunch before going on a rainforest walk. It is a 25 min circuit but with Ella’s little legs and Paul’s enthusiasm for showing Ella all the different plants and animals, it took us about an hour. It was a lovely way to end our little getaway with Paul and Michelle.
Ella fell asleep on the way home and when we stopped the car in the carport she woke up, quite upset that we were at home and not back at the tent. She was in her element camping with Oompapa – playing outside, going for bushwalks and sleeping in a tent! She thought it was the best trip ever, to the point where every couple of hours we’d be doing something and she’d just out of the blue say ‘wow so much fun’.
It was a lovely relaxing little getaway and we hope to do it again. Photos are now on the blog so enjoy 🙂
