Lost in Leela

Last Saturday we packed the car full of clothes, toys and Birthday presents and headed up to Maleny (Sunshine Coast Hinterland) to a beautiful property just north of the town itself.  There to join us for our holiday was Mum, Dad, Katharine, Steve, Patrick & Eenie.  The house is a luxury abode made up of 2 dodecahedrons, with 4 bedrooms (2 king with walk in robes, 2 queen), 2 bathrooms (1 with spa), beautiful kitchen, open living area, a sunken circular fire pit and verandahs all around.  The house is on a 72 acre property and has 15 acres of lawns, 5km of walking tracks, a 6 hole golf course and pool – all of which we had sole use of!

Right from the get go we thoroughly enjoyed being all together, just relaxing and doing ‘not much’. We spent our days going for walks in the rain (and sunshine), playing (or trying to play) golf and going on little ‘adventures’ – Eenie and I took Ella to the markets one morning, we pottered about in town, we went to Mary Cairncross park, bought yummy cheeses at Kenilworth Cheese and we had a scrumptious lunch out in Mapleton.  After putting the kids to bed at night, we spent our evenings playing games, talking, laughing and reminiscing about old family holidays.

Our biggest adventure was on Wednesday, Ella’s 2nd Birthday!  We all helped Ella open presents and then after breakfast we went to Australia Zoo where we had a great day.  We’d only been there minutes when Ella had the opportunity to pat a Koala.  Katharine and I each fed an elephant and then Ella (after a bit of convincing) took great delight in feeding the many kangaroos.  We had lunch while watching the main show and after more exploring headed home just before 3pm, in time to play with Ella’s new toys and have dinner and cake before bed.  I can’t believe our beautiful little girl is 2!  I’m so proud of the little girl she’s turning into – she has such a beautiful personality and is learning something new every day.  It was really special to see her interacting with all my family for the week, especially for her Birthday.

We had a wonderful week with everyone and I just couldn’t believe how awesome the place was.  It’s not often that you are even more impressed with somewhere in person after what you’ve seen online, but Leela was just that – we booked it as it seemed like the perfect family retreat and it really was, perfect!
