Hi everyone – we are finally in London. We went out to dinner on Wednesday night with Andrew, Melinda and Bill to a lovely Italian restaurant right next to our hotel. Then in the morning we got a lift with Antony into the office, and just after midday Bill dropped us off at the airport. We checked in, went through security (the quickest ever), found our gate and then went exploring. We bought ourselves a travel pillow each, which turned out to work better than anticipated. Once on the flight we settled in, listened to an Audio Book for a while, had a meal, then slept, had another meal, and landed. The trip was only 9 hours and I managed to sleep for most of it. Adrian wasn't so lucky as he seems to have a bit of a cold – hoping he can sleep it off tonight.
From the airport we caught a courtesy shuttle to the Avis hire cars (boy was it nice not having to take another taxi) where Adrian now has Avis Preferred Membersip, so we were able to go straight to the car with no hassles, queues etc. We have a little Peugot something – not sure, just a little European car that just managed to fit all our suitcases in. We then used our trust GPS to take us to the Crowne Plaza where we are booked in for 3 weeks (it was only a 10 minute drive). After finally getting the internet sorted (only about an hour to get someone who knew what they were talking about), we went to one of the 'bars' downstairs for lunch. We then decided the easiest way to look at rentals was to drive to a real estate's office in the area we were interested in. So we went to Pike Smith & Kemp in Maidenhead and were both ppleasantly surprised by how lovely and helpful the ladies were. About half an hour we were looking at a lovely place, and another hour after that we had given them a deposit to hold it until we had all the reference checks done. The description on their website is:
Executive two bedroom first floor apartment backing on to golf course. Comprising: spacious hall with fitted cupboards, sitting/dining room, well fitted kitchen/breakfast room, master bedroom with en suite shower room, further double bedroom, bathroom, secure entry system, lifts to all floors, allocated parking, communal garden. Furnished. Available immediately.
The unit is about a 5-10 minute walk to the train station, and so beautiful I couldn't believe we could actually afford to live in it!! I have attached a word document with pictures from the internet. The reason I have done that is because now that they have our deposit they will take it off the market, and no doubt the website for that particular unit will no longer exist.
By the time we had sorted all that out it was time to think about dinner. We asked at the hotel what was around, and unfortunately there isn't much. Of course the hotel has a few restaurants, but they are quite expensive. We ended up going to a nice Chinese place in West Drayton, which was nice (and cheap too).
The plan for the weekend is to go exploring, set up mobiles, bank accounts and all that exciting stuff. Adrian is already in bed, and I'm not far behind him. So that you are aware the time difference is 10 hours. It is currently 8.30pm on Friday here, which makes it 6.30am on Saturday in Brisbane. Lots of love to you all xoxo 🙂
P.S I can't seem to upload the word document – will try again in the morning …
